Boarding schools were created for those students
who want or need to study and live away from home. A
boy or girl can study here and they are able to live with their peers.
The amount of time one spends in a boarding school varies
considerably from one year to twelve or more years.
A boy or girl could spend the majority of their childhood and adolescence
in the school if it suited their parents and the child. During that time they remain away home and only spend home visits with their parents, returning home during holidays and other pre-arranged visits.
Boarding schools are long term residential schools that genrally have an outdoor component. Boarding schools are also
called "Intentional Communities" because
the teachers and staff members at boarding schools
work very hard to create an environment for students
that are safe, academically challenging, active, and
fun. Some boarding schools, like Abundant Life Academy, are famous for their academic
excellence. Boarding schools have small class
sizes which allows the teacher to give individual attention
to every boy and girl. This student-teach ratio has many distinct advantages.
Boarding school students acquire the abilities that
help ensure success in college and in life.
When the student enrolls at a boarding school and
lives there, he or she takes a short while to get acclamated. But after some times
the school becomes an extended family where boys or girls and
teachers live and learn together. The 24-hour community
of a boarding school environment allows the faculty
to seize every teachable moment whether in the classroom,
on the playing field, or in the dormitory. Many of
the boys that have the rising problem of a learning disability. These problems, ADD/ ADHD and emotional or behavior problems, can
take their toll on the child and the familyl. These boys
have had difficulties focusing on their school work
and other activities. Their parents are frustrated
by their teen’s inability to focus on homework, assignments
and household chores. Boarding schools provide a foundation for increasing self-confidence
and responsible behavior.
The students live with their peer groups in different
rooms and they are supervised 24 hours a day by the
staff members and/or their teachers. The staff assigns a
group or team, made of individual boys and a team leader.
Each group is responsible for the care of its own
section of the school and support structures. All students participate
in daily chores, such as cleaning, cooking, and other miscellaneous chores. This environment offers many lessons,
such as the value of teamwork, self-reliance, and
natural consequences of behavior. The school for troubled teens offers
boys and girls a wide variety of physical challenges
like swimming, canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing,
primitive skills development, and basic carpentry.
By admitting your son or daughter in a boarding school you may
be giving your teen the opportunity to grow into a self dependent adult.
He will be able to make a name for him or herself. He or she will be more
responsible, honest, respectful and helpful to others.
He or she also may be able to control his or her anger and improve
his or her social skills. Your son or daughter will be able to communicate
more effectively. Boarding schools help the student
to be independent and shields him or her from drug and alcohol use. Boarding schools are very unique
because they focus on the individual verus traditional schools. .
